The “Animal Box” is a rectangular box with one animated side that shows 10 animals peeking out of its regular geometry. Each animal finds its shelter in the shape of a negative carved in the box, creating a three-dimensional puzzle that explores the solid/void relationship. Out of the box, your imagination will lead the animals to explore the world.
The “Animal Box” represents the animal world through its stylized shapes that combined with the use of natural materials and their expressive qualities provide strong visual stimuli. Agglomerated cork and sycamore wood have a smooth and warm touch, as well as a fine and homogeneous texture, providing a unique sensory experience.
Materials
Portuguese agglomerated cork - Amorim Cork Composites (FSC - and PEFC - certified).
European sycamore wood (acer pseudoplatanus) (PEFC - certified).
Cork is covered by a thin sealing layer and wood is unfinished.
Cork and wood are fully biodegradable, renewable and recyclable materials. Cork oak forests are one of the 35 most important ecosystems in the planet and the sycamore tree is originally from Europe, where it has been cultivated for centuries, attracting bees, butterflies, birds and small mammals.

Because wood is a natural material it has a non-uniform appearance (veins, knots and other marks) and it may present different white/grey and yellow/golden shades. Therefore, wooden products may present slight variations when compared to the ones on the pictures.
Our wooden products may also present a slight oxidation due to their exposure to certain environmental conditions. In order to keep a uniform shade along the entire object we suggest you to let the animals roam freely around the house.
The box is made of several cork parts and their joints are visible under certain angles of incidence of the light.
The “Animal Box” should not be handled by young children without adult supervision. The animals have thin parts, such as legs and tails, which may break if improperly handled.
